The Trafford Sexual Health Service for Adults and Young People
The Northern Contraception, Sexual Health & HIV Service is a partnership led by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), together with Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAHT). In 2016, this partnership was awarded the contracts for providing integrated sexual and reproductive health services across the city of Manchester, and also for the boroughs of Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.
The new integrated service will offers routine, intermediate and specialist sexual and reproductive health provision including the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, contraception and emergency contraception.
The service also provides easily accessible clinical advice and support to a range of health professionals including GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, and other contraception, sexual health and HIV teams across Greater Manchester.
The Trafford Integrated Sexual Health Service provides a “one stop shop” for your sexual health needs including contraception, young people’s sexual health services and genito-urinary medicine (GUM).
The service is provided by The Northern and the following services are all available free of charge:
- Chemsex support
- Contraception and emergency contraception
- Menopause information
- HIV services
- Pregnancy testing and advice
- Psychosexual counselling
- STI treatment and screening
- plus several other service.
Emergency Contraception
Don’t forget emergency hormonal contraception can be given up to 72 hours after unprotected sex and is available free from all contraceptive and sexual health clinics and some pharmacies (even if you are under 16).
Copper coils can also be used for emergency contraception up to five days after unprotected sex.
Where are the services offered?
There are clinics in Trafford run by the Urmston Clinic at Limelight Old Trafford, Talk shop Sale, Partington Health Centre as well as at the Urmston Clinic itself. Contraception, cervical smear testing and asymptomatic STI testing
There services are available in Trafford.

Most clinics operate with nurses and doctors, however some clinics are operated by nurses only and some contraception methods may require a doctor on site – please check a doctor is available if required.

Who can access Sexual Health services?
All adults and young people are welcome unless otherwise stated (such as the services above for under 19’s). All sessions are free and confidential, poviding advice and counselling for all on any sexual health issues.
There are resources and staff available that can provide extra support with any physical, sensory or mental impairment. You can self-refer or be referred to the service via your carer / support worker or friend or family.
