Statement from Healthwatch in Greater Manchester concerning chemical leaks in NHS hospitals

At first glance these figures are potentially concerning but without looking into the details of each individual incident we cannot make informed comments on them. We anticipate that the Trust has investigated and learnt from each incident in order to minimise any future harm to patients which is our prime concern. The Trust’s safety reporting culture is strong, so that staff feel able and comfortable to report incidents. We understand that the Trust will be making a statement shortly.

We would also urge people in Greater Manchester to tell their local Healthwatch about their experiences of Manchester University Foundation Trust, along with other health and social care providers, so that we can better understand where services need to improve
